2000 Merlot (Sold Out)
2000 Merlot (Sold Out)
Tasting Notes
The 2000 Merlot is visually mature but bright and vibrant on the nose and palate. Aromas of forest floor, cedar shavings, and black pepper fills the nose followed by flavors of rhubarb, licorice and bright intense fruit. “You’re going to get something unexpected!” says Winemaker Jim Duane.
Ratings
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (Aug. 2002) – 88 points
“The charming, lively 2000 Merlot offers aromas of sweet coffee, berries, and fudge presented in a medium-bodied, juicy, friendly style.”
Vineyard Notes
Seavey’s seventh estate produced Merlot, the 2000 was made from grapes grown primarily on a gradually sloping east-facing block near the top of the vineyard. A nearly perfect growing season with moisture early on followed by warm, moderate weather through bloom and fruit set, we experienced a few very warm days in mid-September followed by cool temperatures with periods of unseasonable showers. As usual, we held off picking until the fruit was completely mature.
Production Notes
Winemaking followed classic Bordeaux methods. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (45% new oak) for 18 months before bottling on April 27, 2002.
