2001 Caravina Cabernet (Sold Out)
2001 Caravina Cabernet (Sold Out)
Tasting Notes
Rustic and dark, the 2001 Caravina opens aromatically showcasing tobacco, Earl Grey tea, and melted black licorice. Old World in style, this wine suggests a wonderfully developed Italian Chianti.
Ratings
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (Dec. 2003) – 88 points
“The 2001 Caravina reveals some rustic, hard tannin in the finish, but there is a beautiful bouquet of fruits intermixed with tobacco leaf, loamy soil, and roasted meats. Medium-bodied and ruggedly tannic… [t]here is a lot going on.”
Production Notes
Winemaking followed classic Bordeaux methods. Harvested at 24 Brix, the juice remained in contact with the skins for an average of 14 days. Malolactic fermentation and aging were accomplished in French oak barrels (50% new oak). The Caravina was bottled in June 2003.
