2009 Caravina Cabernet
2009 Caravina Cabernet
“The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Caravina flows across the palate with gorgeous dark red fruit, smoke, licorice and tobacco. It shows gorgeous mid-palate pliancy and generosity through to a finish laced with flowers, mint and spices. The 2009 impresses for its depth, power and overall sense of harmony.” -Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (Dec. 2011) 92 points
Tasting Notes
This is a beautifully structured wine that opens with aromas of cherry, plum, and cassis supported by tobacco and soil aromas. On the palate, the wine restates the cassis and black cherry fruit with hints of graphite minerality and anise. Rounding, chewy tannins are present with a lengthy finish.

Vineyard Notes
Seavey’s 11th estate-produced Caravina, the 2009, was made from grapes that came from vines planted in several different locations of the south-facing hillside vineyard. The growing season was warm, without significant heat spikes or cold spells, and the moderate weather continued well into fall. This provided our fruit an unrushed opportunity to mature a broad and deep flavor profile with powerful aromatics, supportive structure and graphite minerality consistent with our vineyard’s soils.
Production Notes
Winemaking style followed classic Bordeaux methods, beginning with whole-berry fermentation, cold soak and native yeast to start fermentation. The wine was aged in French oak barrels (50% new oak) for 18 months before bottling in June 2011.
